Privacy policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026
This policy explains what Stone Scout (the "app") does with your information. JoB Orange Marketing ("we", "us") runs the app. Contact: [email protected].
The short version
- Your collection stays on your device.
- The photos you scan are sent to our server and an AI service only to identify them. We do not keep your photos.
- No ads. No tracking. We do not sell your data.
What the app handles
When you scan a stone, the app sends the photo over an encrypted connection to our server (hosted on Cloudflare). Our server passes it to an AI service provider (Anthropic) that analyzes the photo and returns the result. We do not store the photo. To avoid paying twice for the same photo, we keep the AI result (not the photo) for up to 30 days, labeled with a one-way code made from the photo that cannot be turned back into the photo. The AI provider processes your photo under its own terms. It may keep it for a limited time (currently up to 30 days under its standard commercial terms) for safety and abuse prevention, and it does not use it to train its models. Please only scan rocks and minerals, and do not include people in your photos.
The first time you open the app it creates a random code and keeps it in your iPhone Keychain. We receive it with each scan to count your free scans and to prevent abuse. It is not your name, email or Apple ID, and it is not used to follow you across other apps or websites.
Payments are handled by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have an active subscription or purchase. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user code and your purchase status. We never see your payment details.
We may advertise the app. If you installed it after tapping an Apple Search Ads ad, Apple can give RevenueCat an anonymous attribution token that says which ad campaign led to the install, so we can tell whether the ads work. It does not identify you and we do not use it to follow you across other apps or websites. We do not show ads in the app.
If you switch on the “stone of the day” reminder, your iPhone shows a short note each day. The notifications are created on your phone; nothing about them is sent to us.
Names, notes, photos and places you save are stored only on your device. If you switch on iCloud sync, they are also copied to your own iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. We cannot see or access your iCloud data.
Only if you tap "Use my current location" on a find, the app reads your position once and saves it with that find on your device (and in your iCloud if sync is on). It is not sent to us.
Used only when you choose to take a photo of a stone.
Our server keeps basic technical records to run the service, such as the time of a request, the size of the image, which AI model was used, how much it cost, and errors. These records do not contain your photos. Cloudflare may process your IP address to deliver and protect the service.
What we do not do
- We do not show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use third-party analytics in the app.
Your choices
- Withdraw permission to send photos in the app under Settings, then Privacy. Scanning will ask again.
- Delete your data in the app under Settings, then Delete my data. This erases your collection and photos from your device and from your iCloud copy if sync is on.
- Turn off camera or location access in the iPhone Settings app at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Because we hold almost none that identifies you, most requests are answered by the controls above. You can also write to [email protected].
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
Photos travel over encrypted connections. Our API keys are kept on the server and never in the app. No system is perfectly secure.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
